Stress Relief Workshops Group drumming is a flexible and cost effective way of dealing with your employee’s stress. Stress is the single biggest cause of sickness absence in the UK and one of the greatest risks to business. 12.8 million days at work were lost to stress, anxiety and depression between 2004 and 2005. 46% of employers have reported an increase in stress-related absence within the workplace. The estimated cost of sickness absence to the British economy is around £12 billion per year. This equates to approximately £1,600 per employee. Work-related stress now accounts for more than one third of all new incidences of ill health with each case leading to an average loss of 30.9 working days (The Health and Safety Executive 2006). “Unlike some teambuilding schemes where people have different level of commitment, the drumming sessions are universal. I have adapted the drum beats so they are simple to pick-up – but they get faster to reach a crescendo. We’re not teaching people how to drum; we’re teaching people how to have fun!” Suleman Chebe Hr Network Scotland - Employee Wellbeing |

Why Drumming? Ultimately, reducing stress and tension at work requires employees to let their hair down and have a little fun. Bashing the living daylights out of African drums is great fun and involves everyone; irrespective of age, gender or rank.
It is a group bonding technique which is widely used in other parts of the world to combat employee stress with great results. Companies which have invested and benefited from African drumming include Tennents, HBOS, Thermofisher Scientific, Britannia Operator Ltd and Audit Scotland (feedback from our drumming workshops) |

| A study from America showed that when staff at a Pennsylvania nursing home took part in six weekly drumming sessions, it improved their mood by almost 50% and significantly lowered staff turn-over. Dr Barry Bittman, the author of the report, said there was a decrease in feelings of fatigue and depression. | |||||||||||||||

Workshop Progression Most participants in our drumming workshops are slightly apprehensive at the beginning. They are tense and hit the drum nervously. After a few simple beats they begin to relax and enjoy the new experience. As the workshop progresses their confidence grows and they are soon banging the drums loudly and laughing. |
